About Us
Central Coast Bicycles
Central Coast Bicycles draws inspiration from the stunning cycling routes of California’s Central Coast. Located between the mountains and the beach, San Luis Obispo boasts a vibrant cycling community.
In 2020, Tim, a mechanical engineer and passionate cyclist, envisioned a semi-custom bicycle that incorporates the latest carbon fiber technology, allowing riders to express their individuality beyond standard color options. Prototypes were designed, built, and rigorously tested on various terrains across California. In 2024, they officially launched Central Coast Bicycles!
Co-owners Tim and Karen, both accomplished competitive cyclists,
have raced in multiple disciplines.
Our Bicycle (Love) Story
Tim and Karen met through the University of Dayton Cycling Club, where they participated in road racing and time trial events. Tim founded the club in the 1990s, and both he and Karen served as Presidents. They have raced all types of bicycles, including tandem, track, and downhill, and together they hold multiple state championship titles in cycling. In the early 2000s, they established a semi-pro cycling team and became the first athletes sponsored by Honey Stinger. Tim began coaching shortly after the team's formation and is a certified coach in cycling, triathlon, swimming, and running. Karen has held coaching certifications in cycling, triathlon, and archery. They both coached the University of Dayton Triathlon Club and served as Lifetime Masters Swim Coaches in different years. Additionally, Tim has coached individual Ironman athletes and world-class draft-legal triathletes, as well as the Cleveland State University and the University of Akron triathlon teams. Together, they also started a youth triathlon program focused on skills, teamwork, and fun!
Today, the duo live in San Luis Obispo with their family and two labrador retrievers. Tim is one of the coaches of the SLO Scoters NICA Mountain Bike Team. Both Tim & Karen enjoy going on adventures and riding around town on anything with two wheels!
