How it started...
Tim has been in the endurance sports world since he was in junior high school. A competitive high school swimmer and runner, he discovered cycling at the University of Dayton (Go Flyers!) and successfully made his way to the elite level. He won several state championships in MTB and Track cycling, earned a couple of time trial national age group podiums, and successfully raced for many years on the road, the track, and on the trail. In 2005, Tim discovered triathlon. It combined his love for swimming, cycling, and running... and he could train for each discipline in shorter intervals, which was perfect as a new dad! The pinnacle of Tim's triathlon career was qualifying for Team USA and competing at the World Triathlon Championships in Cozumel, Mexico in 2016.
Coaching
In 2003, Tim started helping other people get into and train for cycling. He became the head coach of the Case Western Reserve University Cycling Team, where his wife Karen was a grad student competing in collegiate downhill mountain biking events. He also went on to coach several collegiate and regional triathlon programs, including:
University of Dayton Triathlon Team
Cleveland State University Triathlon Team
University of Akron Triathlon Team
Cleveland Triathlon Club
Tim enjoyed coaching so much that he started North Coast Endurance Coaching / West Coast Endurance Coaching. He holds and maintains multiple coaching certifications from the following organizations:
USA Triathlon
USA Cycling
American Swim Coaches Association
Australian Swim Coaches Association
National Interscholastic Cycling Association

Professional Mechanic
Beyond racing and coaching, Tim is also a professional bike mechanic, holding certifications from:
Shimano
Trek
Specialized
He is a proud member of the Professional Bicycle Mechanics Association (PBMA) and has decades of experience in bike fitting, certified by Bike Fit. As a degreed engineer, his love of problem-solving and precision merged with his cycling expertise. It wasn’t long before he and Karen began designing and testing their own bicycles.
The Launch of Central Coast Bicycles
It was a natural progression as an engineer, cyclist, mechanic, coach, and athlete to begin to build bicycles. He and Karen started Central Coast Bicycles in 2020 by designing, sourcing, and conducting quality analysis / product testing. They incorporated it into a business in 2024. The rest is history!
