The Locations Behind Our Bike Names

Writer: Karen E.Karen E.

When deciding what to call each Central Coast Bicycle model, we thought about our favorite rides and the fun adventures we've shared. On the Central Coast, each ride has its own vibe, and so do our bicycles. Here are the fun adventures behind our mountain, gravel, and road bike names...

1. Hazard Peak Full Suspension Mountain Bike

We named our full suspension mountain bike Hazard Peak, inspired by an exciting trail in Montaña de Oro State Park. This trail provides incredible mountain and ocean views and features challenging terrain-- perfect for intermediate level mountain bikers. It features a well-maintained path (shout out to CCCMB!) includes both smooth and rocky sections. This 8-mile out-and-back trail is one of our favorites! You can add more scenic mileage by connecting to other trails in the park.

2. Mount Lowe Gravel Bike

Our Mount Lowe gravel bike takes its name from another one of our favorite rides just outside of San Luis Obispo. The trailhead is located on Route 101 on the east side of the Cuesta Grade. Once you climb a little on the dirt fire road, expect to see stunning views of San Luis Obispo and the Los Padres National Forest. It is an 8.2-mile out-and-back route that boasts a "gentle" elevation gain, a perfect challenge for all types of riders.

3. Pismo Hardtail Mountain Bike

Our Pismo hardtail mountain bike takes its name from an incredible trail network in Pismo Beach, California. The Pismo Preserve is a popular trail for hikers and cyclists with a mix of climbing and descending—and incredible views of the ocean. It's one of our favorite rides, especially at sunrise or just before sunset.

4. Diablo Road Bike

Our Diablo road bicycle is named after a brief, steep incline (averaging 13.5%) in a residential neighborhood in San Luis Obispo, California. Diablo Drive is an ideal spot to challenge your power and strength on the bike while climbing out of the Los Osos Valley. It's our favorite paved climb on the Central Coast!

More than a name...

The names we choose for our bicycles are more than a name or a label; they are reflections of the amazing rides on the Central Coast and the adventures that await. Do you have a favorite Central Coast trail? Add it in the comments below and happy riding!
